Rollin’ on the river

I live for days like today. It started with a 2 hour bike ride in which I wore short sleeves. And I was sweating glorious drops of actual sweat. It was downright hot out. Dare I say it was summer-hot.

After the ride Steve and I headed over to our boat storage to get the boat out on the water for the first time this year. After checking everything over since we just got the boat out of winter storage, it was time to launch onto the Milwaukee River. Captain Steve drove the boat.

And I did what I do best.

Which is lounge around and drink beer. I am wearing a sweatshirt here because for a short time we left the river and went out on Lake Michigan, and it was COLD out there. Probably a 20-30 degree difference. Milwaukee looks pretty cool from the water.

After cruising around for a while we were both ravenous and decided to stop for dinner at Milwaukee Ale House.

We scored a table outside, and I ordered a Pull Chain Pale Ale, my favorite Ale House Beer.

I am sweating my butt off here and lovin’ it.

To start we ordered some famous Ale House pretzels, made on site and served with cheese and mustard. Steve could hardly wait to attack them.

For my meal I ordered the Island Salmon Salad with mango, and it was so refreshing and tasty.

After dinner we cruised around on the river a little bit more and I snapped some photos of Milwaukee from a different perspective.

If you know anything about Milwaukee, you will get a kick out of this photo:

“Clean” is not a word that can be used to describe the Milwaukee River in any way. I’ll just leave it at that.

Disgusting, dirty birds. This picture does not convey how many there really were. It was terrifying.

Luckily we escaped the poop shower and made it back to the launch safely. Right now I am sitting on the couch next to an open door with a warm breeze coming in. It is 9:08pm and it is still 86 degrees outside. Love. This is basically what my ideal summer day looks like, and there will be many more repeats during the next several months. Wisconsin summers are so short that we must take advantage to the fullest, and that’s exactly what I plan to do.

Cupcake wars

My love for cupcakes is no secret. I am always on the lookout for the most amazing cupcakes known to man, and I am willing to try unlimited cupcake samples in my quest for the best. Oh the sacrifices I make for the cause. Yesterday I was asked to bring dessert to a family get together, and I just so happened to have a Groupon for a dozen cupcakes from Classy Girl Cupcakes just waiting to be used. Let me preface this by saying that I am a devout fan of Milwaukee Cupcake Company, and I couldn’t wait to see how Classy Girl would measure up.

I entered the cute little shop and saw they had quite a selection of flavors to choose from. They offer both tradition and cheesecake cupcakes, and I went with traditional. Cheesecake = blech. I decided to get 6 extra cupcakes in addition to the dozen because my family is quite large. I got 3 confetti (for the kids), 3 cookies & cream, 3 Ghiradelli chocolate, 2 chocolate peanut butter, 2 root beet float, 2 carrot cake, 1 lemon pound cake, 1 white chocolate blackberry, and 1 orange dream.

I was not quick enough with the camera to get a picture of all of them before the kids started going to town. Before the sampling could begin, I had to get a nutritious dinner in my belly. Why? To pre-counter-act all of the sugar I was about to consume in the name of cupcake tasting.

Apparently dinner was very exciting, or else this just proves that I am completely incapable of acting normal for a photo.

My aunt Sue made some delicious chick pea veggie burgers. You may be able to spot it under the giant mound of mouth-watering toppings. There was also a broccoli salad with peanut butter dressing (my mom knew to combine my 2 favorite foods into one amazing salad combination), along with some pasta salad. Once I was fueled up, the cupcake tasting could commence.

Each piece pictured is a quarter of a cupcake. If you are good at math like me, you will quickly figure out that I would be eating 2 cupcakes in total, all in the name of science. I was ready to dig in.

My conclusions? Where to begin. The carrot cake was delicious and probably the best flavor. The lemon pound cake was nice and dense and lemony (the lemon frosting was great), but it was slightly dry. The white chocolate blackberry tasted like a glorified blueberry muffin and I may have become diabetic from the white chocolate frosting. This was my least favorite. The root beer float was my second favorite, the flavor was very unique, although the frosting was again too sweet. Chocolate peanut butter was decent, the pb frosting was good but the cake was a little lacking. The Ghiradelli chocolate looked amazing but was a disappointment. The cake was weak and not nearly chocolaty enough for my taste. The un-pictured orange dream was right up my alley, as I love anything that tastes like a dreamsicle.

In the end, I rule that Milwaukee Cupcake Company reigns supreme. Steve only eats cupcakes that are chocolate on chocolate, but he also agreed that while the Ghiradelli from Classy Girl was good, it did not quite measure up to Milwaukee Cupcake.  I will also point out that the cupcakes at Classy Girl are slightly cheaper than Milwaukee Cupcake, but I am willing to pay the extra 50 cents for a better cupcake. I mean come on, just look at these babies:

The great outdoors

Pretend that in the above picture I am on my bike riding along a beautiful lake, because that is what was about to happen. I am officially done the bike trainer and all rides from here on out will be done in the great outdoors.

Thank.goodness.

I rode 14 miles around a lake that is close to my work, and oh boy was I feeling it. Bike trainer does not equal road. This particular ride is also extremely hilly, so there was that too. I debated doing two loops around the lake, but by the time I finished the first one I decided that was enough thankyouverymuch.

Afterwards I stopped in the bike shop (the building right behind me in the picture) to see about getting a new saddle. My current saddle was pulled off of my road bike and put onto my tri bike, and let’s just say it is not the most comfortable in aero position. Turns out it was nowhere near the right size for me either. The bike shop peeps were awesome, and spent a good hour with me trying different saddles. None of them felt quite right, but they let me borrow a demo seat that I will try out over the weekend.

I also need new gearing on my bike to be able to handle the hills on the Ironman course. All of this “stuff” is my big complaint with biking. Part of what I love so much about running is the fact that you can just put on your shoes and go, no matter where you are. Of course there are more logistics for long runs like hydration and nutrition, but for the most part it’s pretty simple. To go biking you must air up your tires, find your shoes, helmet, gloves, sunglasses, etc, fill your bottles, and I’m probably forgetting something. Oh yeah, make sure you have spare tubes, CO2 cartridges, tire levers and anything else you may need if you get a flat. And if you do get a flat you must spend time changing said tube on the side of the road. Then there’s the matter of the bike itself. Luckily mine fits in the back of my car without removing a wheel, but it’s still kind of a pain to transport if I am not riding from home.

And with that, I am done complaining. You may wonder why I do triathlons given the above paragraph, and that is a good question. Why not just stick to running? I like that triathlon pushes me out of my comfort zone, and I truly believe it makes me a more well-rounded athlete fitness-wise. There is no question I was in the best shape of my life going into Ironman in 2009, and I plan to be in even better shape this time around. Also, I love training for insane amounts of hours, which is sort of a requirement for Ironman. I can’t run for 15 hours a week without getting injured, but I can swim/bike/run and feel great. Tomorrow I have a 90 min run and 75 min swim, and Sunday is a 2 hour bike. Bring it!

No banana left behind

Monday night as I was perusing the produce department at the grocery store, I caught something out of the corner of my eye on the “reduced to sell” shelf. Bananas! Lots and lots of ripe bananas, for $0.29/pound. I may have squealed, and then proceeded to load up my cart.

I scored 19 bananas for under $2.50. The checkout lady quizzically asked what my plan was for all of those bananas. I told her that besides banana bread, banana cake, and all things baked, I would be freezing them to use in smoothies, banana soft serve, and other treats. She was flabbergasted to learn that you could freeze bananas. I did my good deed for the day by letting her in on this well-known fact little secret.

When I woke up today (my day off) and saw a dreary nasty rainy day outside,

I knew I wanted to make a special breakfast. Though a reason for a special breakfast is never necessary, I felt especially compelled by the yucky weather.

I knew I had some leftover cooked quinoa in the fridge, and I had pancakes on the brain. Thus, Coconut Quinoa Banana Pancakes were born.

Coconut Quinoa Banana Pancakes

Adapted from Off Her Cork

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ C Cooked Quinoa
  • ½ C Whole Wheat Pastry Flour
  • ½ C Oat Flour
  • ½ tsp Baking powder
  • ½ TBSP Ground cinnamon
  • 1 very ripe banana
  • 1 ¼ C Unsweetened coconut milk
  • 2 TBSP Wheat Germ
  • 2 TBSP Ground Flax
  • 2 tsp Vanilla Extract

Directions

In a small mixing bowl, mash the banana, then add the coconut milk and vanilla extract. In a large mixing bowl, combine all other ingredients. Add the liquid mixture to the quinoa mixture. Stir just until everything is combined.

Heat a griddle over medium heat. Spray with cooking spray and drop pancake mixture by the spoonful onto the griddle. Cook for about 4 minutes on one side or until the middle starts to pop with air bubbles. Gently flip and allow to finish cooking on the other side, about another 3 minutes.

Makes 10 medium-sized pancakes.

These turned out so good. The quinoa added a great texture, and the banana gave just a hint of sweetness. I topped mine with Trader Joes Crunchy PB with flax (the best PB ever), some frozen raspberries that I thawed in the microwave, and a drizzle of maple syrup.

After I ate these three pancakes, I was still starving so I toasted another tiny pancake and ate that one too. I am blaming my ferocious appetite this morning on the fact that I worked out three times yesterday. I did a 75 min swim in the early morning, a 30 min strength training session during the day, and a speedy 7-mile run after work. I am loving getting back into the Ironman training groove and doing multiple workouts on most days. Mark my words because I may be singing a different tune a month or two from now.

I really wanted to do my first outdoor ride of the year today, but it looks like the weather is not going to cooperate and I will be chained to the bike trainer once more. I am riding outside on Friday and Sunday no matter what, so let’s hope Mother Nature can get with the program and give us some decent weather.

Green Bay weekend

Over the weekend Steve and I headed up to Green Bay to volunteer at the marathon as part of a cheer team for Team in Training. We got there on Saturday afternoon and headed to the race expo to meet up with the group. The expo was held at Lambeau Field, which was pretty cool.

We got to check out the field, which seemed way smaller in person than it looks on TV with a packed house.

This is probably the only time in my life I will be setting foot in here (unless I someday run the Green Bay marathon), so I captured the moment.

Saturday night was spent eating at the pre-race pasta dinner (only because we got free tickets), hanging out in the hot tub at the hotel, and drinking beer. In case you haven’t noticed, I did away with my clean eating for the weekend. I could not resist having a big chocolate chip cookie at dinner, they were just calling my name. And did I mention free? I enjoyed every last bite.

Sunday morning we awoke bright and early to cold temperatures and high winds, but at least it was not raining. I was so glad I was not running, because the wind was brutal, gusting up to 45mph. We met up with the rest of our cheer team and headed to our first station at mile 6. The cheer team’s responsibility is to cheer for every single TNT participant when they pass, and then move on to the next station. As you can imagine, we were out there for a while, with 50 or so participants in the half-marathon and 11 in the full. I was equipped with my Boston cowbell (I knew that sucker would come in handy) and a TNT sign.

I had so much fun cheering for everyone. Besides TNT participants, I actually knew quite a few people racing, and I cheered my face off for everyone. Our second stop was at mile 21. This was right at the end of a 5 mile long stretch for the marathoners headed straight into the ferocious wind. Many people were looking defeated, and many just pissed. I felt so bad for them, as wind has to be my absolute least favorite running condition. We cheered for everyone as they passed, and finally the last TNT-er came by.

We stopped briefly by the finish line to say goodbye to the TNT staff, and then it was time to head home. I was so exhausted that I promptly passed out in the car. I love cheering at races because I know how much of a boost it can be for the racers. I think all runners should go out and spectate or volunteer at a race to give back to the whole running community. Plus it’s a blast!

In other news: I am back on the sauce. My beloved coffee that is. And I don’t even feel bad about it because Dr. Oz says that coffee is chock full of antioxidants and up to 24 oz a day is good for you. I am going to try to stick to just one cup in the morning so I can learn moderation.

And finally, today is officially day 1 of Ironman training. I was up bright and early at 5:30am for a date with my bike trainer. Let the two-a-day workouts, perpetual exhaustion, and non-stop eating begin!

Clean eating week, or I want coffee

This past Monday I embarked on a personal challenge to eat clean for one week, hoping to give my body everything it needs to recover well and rest up. Why? Ironman training officially starts next week, and after running 2 marathons in 3 weeks, I am feeling a little bit run down. I have also been feeling like I consume way too much sugar on a daily basis, not to mention I am tired a lot of the time and don’t sleep very well.

So, here are the guidelines I set for myself. I didn’t base this on any specific detox or diet plan, rather I drew off of the research I have done in the past and what I thought would work for my body. I generally eat very healthfully (if not a little heavy on the desserts :-)), so this is not really a radical change for me as much as a “cleaning up.”

1. No added sugar in any form. Fruit and small amounts of dried fruit are ok. This means no honey, molasses, maple syrup, etc. Nothing that is added to food as a sweetener.

2. No caffeine.

3. Green smoothies for breakfast every day.

4. At least one huge salad every day.

5. No processed foods, no white flour (these kind of go hand in hand I think)

6. I wanted to do no dairy, but I had some organic liquid yogurt that was already opened at the beginning of the week. I refuse to waste it, so I have been using it up in my smoothies. Other than that, no dairy or eggs.

Today is day 4 of my little challenge, and I am happy to report I have been sticking to it. I have a history of terrible will power and uncontrollable sugar eating at night, so I didn’t really know if I would be able to do it. I discovered that with some advance preparations it really hasn’t been too hard. The worst part by far is not drinking coffee. I miss my beloved black gold so much, and cannot wait until we are reunited. Here’s how things went down.

Sunday afternoon I prepped some things for the week. I boiled a pound of pinto beans, 2/3 of which went into the freezer and 1/3 into the fridge to use for the week. I also made a big pot of brown rice, homemade hummus, and a batch of Mmmm Sauce to slather all over everything throughout the week. The key for me is having some things like this on hand because I am too lazy to do too much during the week. I want to be able to come home and prepare my dinner in less than 15 minutes. Another key has been packing my lunches the night before. I need to get into this habit again before I am training 15 hours a week anyways, so I’m glad I got the ball rolling. I have been making a big salad at night to take for lunch. These have mostly consisted of mixed greens or spinach, peppers, tomatoes, pinto beans with adobo seasoning, pepitas, and avocado. The first few days also included brown rice until I ran out. I also packed a small container of sauce, some fruit, and some hummus & veggies. My snacks at work often include some sort of bar (Luna, Clif, etc), but these are off-limits because of the sugar. I made up a bag of trail mix with raw almonds, raw walnuts, raw cashews, pepitas, and raisins. I have been snacking on small handfuls of that throughout the day, along with apples and oranges.

Breakfasts have been great. I love green smoothies, so this isn’t hard for me, but I do miss the variety of sometimes having oats, yogurt, cereal, etc.

This morning’s smoothie was my favorite yet. It had a cup of liquid yogurt, an orange, 1 packet of Amazing Grass Orange Dreamsicle Green Superfood, 1 T chia seeds, 1 T pepitas, 1 frozen banana, a splash of vanilla extract, and 2 huge handfuls of spinach. It seriously tasted like an orange dreamsicle. I have had some fun lately picking up sample packets at Whole Foods of different things to put in my smoothies. I was very impressed with the taste of the Amazing Grass, considering what it is.

I have also been getting a little creative with my dinners, while still keeping prep time to a minimum.

I love making green wraps. These are rainbow chard leaves filled with Mmmm sauce, sweet potato, and sunflower seeds. On the side is some steamed broccoli and carrots with smoked paprika and hummus. I almost could not finish this plate, it was so filling.

After dinner I have either been having nothing, herbal tea, or if I am hungry a snack of brown rice heated with coconut milk & cinnamon with some raisins and natural peanut butter. Brown rice probably isn’t the best thing to eat at night, but I suppose it is better than cereal with chocolate chips 🙂 I am actually amazed how easy it has been to cut out the added sugar. I find that I am not snacking nearly as much, and I am not experiencing uncontrolled eating at night. I am also amazed how incredibly hard it has been to give up coffee.

Let’s talk about coffee. Before this week, I could not tell you the last time I went one single day without it. The very first thing I do every single morning (after peeing of course), is make a cup of coffee in my single cup brewer. I love everything about coffee, the smell, the taste, the caffeine. I am getting a craving right now just typing this. That said, I have never considered myself a coffee junkie. I have my one cup in the morning, then sometimes I stop on the way into work for another cup. On occasion my coworkers and I do a Starbucks run during the day as a treat, but this is not an everyday occurrence. I do not drink it in the afternoon because I will not sleep. Instead of coffee this week, I have been drinking caffeine free green tea or herbal tea. This morning I had hot lemon water because I finally got a chance to go to Whole Foods yesterday for organic lemons. Monday morning I was tired, but not too bad, and I figured some of that was from running a marathon on Saturday and not sleeping well. Monday afternoon the headache hit. It wasn’t terrible, but it was annoying. Monday night I had a massage, and I asked for help getting “flushed out.” My legs weren’t sore from the marathon, so she worked on my whole body and it was heavenly.

Monday night I was a zombie and went to bed early. I got at least 8 hours of sleep, yet I woke up on Tuesday feeling like I had been hit by a bus. I had a headache in full force, and all I wanted to do for the first half of the day was curl up in a ball and sleep. And drink coffee. I ate lunch outside on Tuesday because it was nice out, and that helped to perk me up a little bit. My headache went away by late afternoon on Tuesday and hasn’t been back since. I think I am over the caffeine withdrawal part, but I still miss coffee so much. I was so disappointed last night before I went to bed when I thought about waking up in the morning and not being able to have my coffee. Lemon water is just not the same.

As far as the diet side of things, I have to say I really haven’t noticed any changes. I don’t feel better or worse. I am still tired a lot of the time. I haven’t lost weight. Though weight loss was not my goal with this, I was hoping it would be a nice side effect. I am still hanging on to 10 stubborn pounds that I gained over the winter, and I would really like to get rid of it as I get into Ironman training. Oh, and it would be nice if my clothes fit again too. I have kind of come to the conclusion that one week is not going to be long enough to notice a big difference. As I said, it’s not like I didn’t already eat healthy before. If I had gone from eating fast food and junk to this healthy diet cold turkey, I’m sure I would have noticed a big difference. I did have some tortilla chips and salsa (which may or may not have contained sugar) yesterday at a Mexican restaurant. This is the only thing I’ve eaten this week that didn’t fall within my guidelines. I am thinking I need to stick to this for at least another week after this week, if not a month. However, I can say almost certainly that it will not be that long before I have coffee again. After this week, I may start to incorporate a small amount of natural added sugars like honey or maple syrup, but maybe not. I am going to give it a few more days and see how my body feels, then I will reassess the next step.

Wisconsin Marathon 5.07.11

The night before the marathon, Steve and I decided to go out to dinner at a local italian restaurant. Since I am not a huge pasta person, especially before running (weird, I know), I went with the nightly special which was sea bass. It was served with mango salsa,  sweet cream risotto with dried cherries (the main reason I ordered it) and a small salad on the plate. After the waitress told us the specials, I commented to Steve about how I hate when they tell you the specials and not the price. I ordered it anyways, ate every last bite (it was good!) and then about had a heart attack when the bill came and I learned that my meal was $26.95. Mind you, this was way more expensive than anything on the actual menu, which really ticked me off.

Anyways, I figured carbs (risotto) + protein (fish) = excellent pre-race meal.

I was in bed and asleep by shortly after 10pm, and was awoken from crazy dreams by a 4am alarm. I immediately had 2 cups of coffee before waking up Steve. I also had a small piece of toast with peanut butter & honey before we left. I realized as I was half-way done with the toast that I was eating high-fiber bread. Um, oops? Luckily it did not come back to haunt me. We were out the door by 5am to make the hour-long drive to the race site in Kenosha.

We were able to park in a lot just a few blocks away from the start. We snapped a pre-race photo before heading over to get in line for the port-a-potties.

Imagine my surprise when we arrived in the starting area and there were literally NO LINES for the bathrooms. Score! I took care of business, and 5 minutes later there were huge lines everywhere. Good timing I guess.

We stood around until the sun came up and started to warm the chilly air. I ate two huge medjool dates about 20 mins before the start. Before we knew it, it was time to line up for the start of the race.

There was only one objective for this race, and that was to run with Steve every step of the way and support him in any way I could to get him to the finish line of his first marathon. In a perfect world, his ultimate goal was to get close to a four-hour finish. I reminded him that no matter the time, he was going to finish a marathon today with a PR.

The race started right on time at 7am, and we were off. The first couple miles were a little fast, somewhere around 8:40 & 8:30, and I knew we had to dial it back a little. We settled in for the next few miles at a comfortable 8:50ish pace. Everything was going great, the sun was up, the lake was beautiful, and we felt good. We both decided to take our first energy gel around 6 miles because there was a water stop coming up. I remember thinking that the stretch of road we were running on was terrible, full of bumps, cracks and potholes. I went to squeeze some gel into my mouth, and the next thing I knew, my toes rammed into a raised crack in the road and I was flying through the air. I hit the pavement with a painful thud.

I heard a collective gasp from everyone around me, and as I popped up off the ground there were a lot of “are you ok’s??” Though I assured everyone I was just fine, I actually wasn’t sure. I landed hard on my left knee, right hip, right elbow, and both hands. I couldn’t bend my right arm, so it was just kind of hanging down at my side. Steve kept on asking if I was sure I was ok. I didn’t want to do anything to ruin his first marathon experience, so I said yes. As I tried to assess the damage, I looked down and saw that my hip was bleeding through 2 shirts. I lifted the shirts and saw that all of my skin was scraped off and it was dirty from the pavement. A few minutes later I noticed my elbow was also bloody, along with my right hand. To my ultimate dismay, my favorite ever long-sleeved running shirt was ruined. I tried not to cry.

There was nothing I could do but keep running. My arm started to regain feeling, so I figured I must have just landed really hard on the nerves around my elbow and it would be fine. Steve had to make a pit stop around mile 7, and as I waited for him I took off the long-sleeved shirt and tied it around my waist. We continued on, keeping a nice even pace through the half-way point, which we hit in 2:01. From this point on, things thinned out a lot because the half-marathoners turned towards the finish. Steve said he didn’t know if he would be able to hold our current pace, and I told him not to worry about it. I reminded him again that he was going to finish a marathon today and that he was doing great.

There are some stretches of gravel roads during the second half, which was really not good for Steve because he runs in Vibrams. There were lots of sharp little stones for him to step on, and at one point he struck one really hard on the ball of his foot and had to walk for a minute. We would make it to the next paved road, only to encounter more gravel soon after. Steve was getting really frustrated, and I basically had to tell him to suck it up because we had to get through it. He tried running on the edge of the road in the grass, which helped a little.

By the time we hit the turnaround at mile 19 or so, I could tell Steve was really starting to hurt. His foot was in pain, and he had to stop and stretch his hamstrings, which were starting to tighten up. I tried to be as encouraging as possible. I knew exactly what he was feeling, and I wished I could just help him run. The last 7 miles were slow, we kept stopping so Steve could stretch out his hamstrings. I kept trying to say the right thing to motivate him to the finish, and at one point he told me “Please don’t right now. Just don’t.” So I shut up for a while.

With one mile to go, there was no more stopping. Steve told me that he thought he was going to die and would need his foot amputated after the race. As we made the final turn towards the finish, he actually picked up the pace a bit and I got a little choked up about the fact that we were about to cross the finish line together. We crossed in 4:26:01, arms up in the air.

We got our space blankets and grabbed some water and bananas. We sat around for a minute, but the weather had turned pretty chilly so we walked the few blocks back to the car. There I was able to survey the damage a little better. My favorite running shirt, shredded at the elbow:

My capris were actually stuck to the wound. As soon as I exposed it to the air it started to sting like a mother.

I’m pretty sure I left some skin from my hip out on the course. Do you want to know what makes everything better?

Starbucks coconut mocha frapaccino. Especially when you order a grande and they accidentally make you a venti. Have you tried this yet? Heaven in a cup I tell you.

There was no time to rest when we got home, as we had a birthday/Mother’s Day celebration to attend. I am going to skip over the part where Steve cleaned out my wounds with peroxide and I almost passed out when he had to cut a piece of hanging skin off of my hip with a scalpel. I am a baby.

My family always has amazing food at parties, so I got to refuel with pure deliciousness.

That is my favorite salad of all time, with mixed greens, craisins, smoked swiss, pine nuts, and a vinaigrette that is so good I could bathe in it. Along with mashed potatoes, green beans and fruit. Un-pictured is the half-carton of guacamole I inhaled before dinner. And of course no celebration is complete without dessert.

Funfetti cake, ice cream, strawberries, peanuts, chocolate sauce, and chocolate chips. Gotta replace those carbs!

Overall it was such a great day. I am so proud of Steve for finishing his first marathon, and I am so glad that I was able to run with him and support him every step of the way. We are going to take a week of active recovery (mostly swimming and light biking), and then it is straight into Ironman training. Bring it!
