36 weeks

Baby is the size of a honeydew melon. His liver and kidneys are in working order, circulation is good to go, and he is just about able to breathe on his own.

So for the first time I missed doing a weekly update last week. I was super busy, didn’t get a chance to take a good picture, and was generally exhausted. So this update will have to encompass the last two weeks…here goes.

How I am feeling: tired. So, so tired. I wake up in the morning tired, I feel like I need a nap most days, and I wake up constantly during the night. I would say that now I have to get up and pee during the night about 33% of the time. Mostly I am just incredibly uncomfortable in general, but I can now remind myself that I only have four weeks to go! Give or take of course, but it’s hard to believe that my due date is less than one month away. Crazy.

Baby boy is still very active with huge movements. He loves to thrust his bootie up and out, which makes my belly look completely lopsided. Then he will stretch his legs and I can feel his little feet poking out on my side (usually the right side but sometimes he will completely flip and I will feel them on the left. It never gets old, I still love it. I have been having contractions more frequently lately, but they are random and not painful. One night after I overdid it a little I had some painful ones that were strong enough to wake me up, but by morning they were gone. I realized I just need to me more conscious of taking it easy and getting lots of rest.

Two Wednesdays ago I met with my new OB that I will be seeing from here on out. My original doc had her baby girl and is now on maternity leave. I got to the office and the nurse took me back, took my weight as usual, and then took my BP. Turns out my BP was in the 150’s/80’s (oy!). I have never had high blood pressure in my life. In fact, it is usually in the 100’s or 110’s/60’s. The nurse waited a few minutes before taking it again, and it was down to 134/78. The doc didn’t seem too concerned about it, but wanted me to come back last week to check it again, and to call right away if I started getting headaches, dizziness or blurred vision. In the meantime, I was testing it at home daily with an automatic BP cuff, and the numbers were always fine. I went back last Wednesday with my home machine to compare with the nurse’s reading. Well guess what, the machine read high in the office! I must have a case of white coat syndrome going on. A few minutes later the nurse took it and it was back to normal. We shall see what happens tomorrow at the doc, but I am not really worried about it since my numbers have been fine at home.

In other news, I took advantage of front row parking at the grocery store the other day for the first time.

Score. As far as food goes, my new obsession is strawberries. Watermelon is still getting a lot of love as well, but strawberries are so good. I am still not able to eat too much before I am full, but I have felt a little hungrier in the past few days I think, so I just eat snacks more often throughout the day. Snacks of choice include fruit (obviously), pretzels with cream cheese, greek yogurt with berries, Frosted Mini Wheats, and Cocoa Puffs. Basically I am eating like a toddler. I am still loving lemonade in all flavor variations mixed with seltzer as well.

And another nursery update – it’s pretty much done! All we have to do is install the new ceiling fan and hang a couple of things on the walls.

My cat is obsessed with the rug and likes to roll around on it.

I love the glider & ottoman, and the cute bookshelf was a shower gift. We were able to use Target gift cards to order the rest of the necessary items we needed. The only thing we don’t have yet is a monitor, and I am really sick of researching them (we want a video monitor and the reviews on almost all of them are completely mixed). I think I am going to enlist Steve to just pick one out on Amazon and get it over with so I can stop thinking about it.

I know I’ve shown this one already, but I am showing it again because 1) I love it and 2) I need to talk about that ‘K’. There has been quite a bit of speculation and harassment about what his name is, especially amongst my extended family. Over the weekend we were at a family party and the guesses were flying. People were trying to read our body language and gauge our reaction to their guesses, it was pretty funny. I am happy to say that Steve and I held strong and did not provide any clues 🙂 Everybody will just have to wait until the little dude is here. Not too much longer!
